Perhaps the ultimate nod to a slopesport enthusiast is when a ski run gets dubbed with their namesake.

Here's a breakdown of 12 ski runs around Colorado that are named after people:

1. Davis Trail (A-Basin)

According to Arapahoe Basin, U.S. Forest Service ranger Wilfred "Slim" Davis helped to open the ski resort. Westword writes about the story of how Davis spotted the potential of the resort and hand-drew the design and layout of the ski area.

2. No Problem (Aspen Buttermilk)

According to Westword, Aspen Buttermilk's 'No Problem' run is named after Joe Candreia, a mechanic who worked in Aspen. "No Problem Joe" was frequently called to fix the lifts during peak ski season.

3. Bingo Slot (Aspen Mountain)

This ski run name has ties to Fred Iselin, one of Colorado's most notable ski instructors – but it's not named after him. It's named after his Saint Bernard dog, Bingo. Iselin moved to Aspen in 1947, and became a pioneer of innovations of skiing as well as a ski instructor.

4. CJ's (Breckenridge)

C.J. "Crazy John" Mueller is renowned for his speed skiing, and collected three world-record speed-skiing titles in the 1980s. Mueller's skiing prowess was rewarded with an expert run off the top of Peak 7 being named after him.

5. Frank's Fave (Copper)

This trail is named after "First Chair Frank," who skied Copper Mountain almost every day into his mid-nineties. According to Westword, he logged 8.7 million vertical feet in one season on the mountain.

6. Riva Ridge (Vail)

Although this one isn't named after a specific person, it was named in honor of a group of people who were instrumental in Vail's beginnings – the 10th Mountain Division. The trail is named after the infantry's "best-known combat achievement" on the Riva Ridge in Northern Italy's mountains in 1945.

7. Widge's Ridge (Vail)

According to Vail Resorts, this run is named after Alice "Widge" Ferguson. She was an early skier of the Back Bowls, and "always seemed to bring snow with her when she came to Vail."

8. Cady's Cafe (Vail)

Before it was the black diamond run it is today, this area was an early waste facility below Mid-Vail overseen by a member of the Mountain Operations team with the last name Cady. The building was affectionately referred to as "Cady's Cafe," and when it was converted to storage, the surrounding area was opened to skiers and the name stuck.

9. Ricky's Ridge (Vail)

This run is named after Ricky Andenmatten, who was from Zermatt, Switzerland. Andenmatten was one of Vail's first ski instructors.

10. Lost Boy (Vail)

A 14-year-old Martin Koether accidentally skied into undeveloped Game Creek Bowl. He ended up spending the night in a snow cave under a tree while rescuers searched for him, fortunately making his way out of the bowl and to safely the next day. The run was later named "Lost Boy" after this incident.

11. In the Wuides (Vail)

According to Vail Resorts, this run is named in honor of Paul Testwuide. Testwuide was "a part of the Vail family since the beginning," and helped develop Blue Sky Basin.

12. Lindsey's (Vail)

This black diamond run was renamed after World Cup alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn. According to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum, Vonn has won three Olympic medals and is the only American woman to win an Olympic downhill gold and win four world cup overall titles.

13. Brennan's Grin (Copper)

This run is named after Michael Brennan, who was working as a ski patroller on the mountain at the time of his death in 1973. According to a Facebook post by Tiny Doors Frisco, Brennan had a "satisfied grin" whenever he achieved a difficult feat, hence, "Brennan's Grin."

14. Rosi's Run (Copper)

This black diamond run was named after Rosi Mittermaier, a German alpine skier. Mittermaier won two gold medals and one silver at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.

You also missed Hall's Alley at Monarch. It was named after my father-in law-Vernon H. Hall who was one of the original investors and an avid skier who loved moguls. He also put a lot of physical labor into getting Monarch started.

You missed Rosi's Run at Copper Mountain, named after Rosi Mittermaier - 1976 Innsbruck Olympic champion.
