Turkey Meadow Campground is a small 10-site loop on the east side of Grouse Mountain Campground in 5,121-acre Mueller State Park on the west side of Pikes Peak. The sites have great views of the Peak, especially at sunset. All sites are walk-in only, with a parking lot on Wapiti Road, and have picnic tables and fire grates. The seven sites on the north side of the trail are shaded, while the three on the south side are next to a sloping meadow. Make reservations from three days to six months in advance. A vault toilet and water are on the road west of the campsites. The Camper Services Building in the middle of the campgrounds has restrooms, coin-operated showers, and a laundry. Pets are welcome at the campground, but must be leashed at all times and are not allowed on trails.

Pro Tips

  • Mueller State Park is west of Colorado Springs. From Interstate 25 in the Springs, take Exit 141 onto West Cimarron Street/U.S. 24. Drive west on U.S. 24 for 25 miles to Divide. Turn left on Colorado Highway 67 and drive 3.5 miles to the park entrance on the right. Follow Wapiti Road to the visitor center and campgrounds. Contact the park for more information.
  • Camping is limited to a single campsite with a maximum of six people. Tents should be placed only on established tent pads. Only 3.2% alcoholic beverages allowed and no marijuana use.
  • This is bear country, so strict rules are followed to reduce bear encounters. Food, scented products, and cooking utensils must be stored in vehicles all the time. Don’t bring food or toiletries in tents; don’t sleep in clothes worn while cooking; and dispose of trash in dumpsters or bear-proof containers. Ask a ranger if you need a storage area for food and they can provide a safe box.
  • Grouse Mountain Overlook Trail (#16) is an excellent 0.8-mile, round-trip hike to the 9,843-foot park high point. The hike starts at a parking lot at the north end of Grouse Mountain Campground. The trail crosses a meadow and then ascends through a spruce forest to the rocky summit and scenic views of 14,115-foot Pikes Peak. The trail closes from June 1 to June 20 for elk calving season.
  • Recommended season(s): Year-round.
