Things To Do

On the west side of Wolf Creek Pass is a stunning waterfall that has been making drivers say, “Huh!” and pulling over ever since the road was built in the 1930s. The 105-foot waterfall is visible from the highway, but it takes a 15-minute hike to reach the base, where you can feel the cold spray on your face without getting near the thundering cascade.

Pro Tips

  • The terrain above the falls gets so much snow – Wolf Creek Ski Area justifiably claims to get the most snow in Colorado, 450 inches – that Treasure Falls is still at high water long after many falls have reverted to a trickle.
  • Be careful scrambling around the rocks near the waterfall. They are slick and worn smooth from centuries of water.
  • This is a great place to stretch your legs on a long drive either to or from Pagosa Springs or Durango, complete with restrooms at the trailhead.
  • Recommended season(s): Late spring to early summer.
