Experience a different side of Pikes Peak on the highly popular trail to The Crags, a collection of cliffs, rock towers and overlooks on peak’s northwest slopes. The trail, No. 664, starts three miles up Teller County Road 62 from Colorado Highway 67 and is steep until the turnoff for Trail No. 664A. Stay on 664, as the other will take you high on Pikes Peak to Devil’s Playground and eventually the summit. It is mostly level from here, passing through meadows with increasingly curious rock formations. Return to the trees for the final push to the uppermost of The Crags, with great views of Rampart Reservoir and the wooded hills of the Front Range. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mount Evans. The entire trail is less than four miles long, making it an ideal family outing.
