Colorado Springs residents may notice smoky skies to the south on Thursday. Know that the haze is coming from a blaze at Fort Carson.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department has noted that their services have been requested for mutual aid in the fire, with prescribed burns scheduled to take place in the area through mid-April.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department did note that while their aid has been requested, the fire is not burning within city limits as of 1:22 p.m. on March 28.

The fire department later noted that Highway 115 in the area of Fort Carson has been closed, as of 2:11 p.m.

It's unclear at this time if the prescribed burn is going as intended given the request for aid, though this doesn't seem to be a situation that's threatening life or property of local residents.

The prescribed burns are intended to reduce heavy vegetation that can fuel wildfires, per a report from The Gazette's Mary Shinn.

Prescribed burns are only started if conditions are deemed safe.

As Shinn previously reported, "smoke from prescribed fire on Fort Carson will most likely be visible along the Interstate 25 corridor from Colorado Springs to Pueblo and the Colorado 115 route from Colorado Springs to Penrose."

Necessary updates will likely be posted to Colorado Springs Fire Department social media.
