The NBA and Denver police are investigating what to do about a video which apparently showed Nikola Jokic's brother allegedly punching a fan immediately after the Nuggets' buzzer-beating win.
The TikTok video, which was posted by user, "@cgallegos67", showed Strahinja Jokic, dressed in a No. 15 jersey, leaping down several rows and allegedly striking an unidentified fan in the face. The fan, who is wearing a long-sleeved light blue shirt, appeared to walk away from the altercation. In the foreground is Jokic's wife, Natalija, who walks out of view of the footage looking frustrated. A child who appeared to be Jokic's blonde, ponytailed daughter, Ognjena was in her arms, dressed in a small No. 15 jersey.
At the beginning of the video, a person can be heard yelling "Beat him!"
A man who said he was nearby posted on TikTok that the fan "spat on Nicola Jokic's child and tried to grab his wife, but his account of what may have started the altercation was not confirmed by The Denver Gazette.
In a statement, a DPD spokesperson told The Denver Gazette:
"The Denver Police Department is aware of the video circulating on social media that appears to have happened Monday night at the Denver Nuggets game. The incident was not reported to Denver Police at the arena or after the game was over, and at this time, no one has come forward as a victim of this incident."
Strahinja Jokic has a prior arrest by the Denver police for allegedly choking and pushing a woman in 2019.
Denver police are asking for anyone who was involved in the alleged altercation or who witnessed it to contact them at 720-913-2000.
The Denver Gazette contacted Denver Nuggets Manager of Security Nyk Frazzell for an explanation. He confirmed that Ball Arena is equipped with surveillance video inside, but would not elaborate on whether the team has supplied the video to law enforcement.
It's unclear how the NBA will handle the situation. The altercation happened just as the Nuggets beat the Lakers by two points in the final second of Game 2 which saw the Lakers leading throughout.
In theory, the league could ban the brother from attending games for a set amount of time if it wants to get involved.
At press time, the TikTok video had received upwards of 130,000 views.
