The Clear Creek County Coroner's Office identified the skier who died on the Zig Zag Ski Trail at Loveland Ski Area Friday. Emergency responders believe she may have collided with a tree.

Trina Pappas, 22, from Dyer, Indiana, was skiing down the green-level trail with a male companion around 1 p.m., according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office. The duo got separated and the man reached the bottom of the run without Pappas.

After several minutes, the man contacted Loveland ski patrol to help find Pappas. The patrol eventually found the woman "unconscious near a tree," according to a news release.

Loveland Ski Patrol and Loveland Valley emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures to revive the victim. By the time deputies and Clear Creek Emergency Medical Services arrived, the woman had officially passed away.

"There is no indication of foul play, and no criminal investigation is underway," the department said. "The victim had traveled to Colorado from Indiana on a ski trip with her companion and sister."

The Clear Creek County Coroner's Office released the identification of the victim on Wednesday prior to performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

"Trina was a beacon of kindness, love and joy in the lives of everyone she touched," Pappas' family wrote in a GoFundMe in her honor. "Her infectious laughter, compassionate heart, and playful personality brought happiness to all who knew her. Trina was a true athlete, strong and ambitious. Whether she was hitting home runs on the softball field, babysitting for the families who loved and trusted her, or spending time with her many friends and family, Trina had a gift."

The fundraiser, which started on Monday, has already raised $45,000 — $20,000 more than the initial goal.
