A fire that started Monday in a remote training area on Fort Carson is now 20% contained with 1,450 acres burned, officials said in a news release.

Crews from the Air Force Academy, Schriever Space Force Base, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Complex and the Stratmore Hills Fire Department were assisting Fort Carson firefighters as they established a perimeter and performed mop-up operations, the release stated.

Residents should expect to see smoke in the area throughout Wednesday.
