Stanley Hotel labeled as the creepiest place to visit in Colorado

It's time to get spooky. The Stanley Hotel was recently listed as the creepiest place to visit in Colorado by the Thrillist.

As many know, the Stanley Hotel notably served as the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's famous novel 'The Shining.' Today, visitors to the historic hotel in Estes Park have claimed to see ghosts of old service workers and claim to hear what sounds like music playing from the rooms.

Perhaps most frightening aspect of all for out-of-staters planning a visit is the elevation.

"There's a much more sinister danger," the Thrillist warned. "The hotel has such an extreme elevation that just walking to your room can drain you, so one stiff drink may have you seeing ghosts." The elevation of the Stanely Hotel is 7,800-feet above sea-level.

A callout like this is sure to draw thrill-seekers to the destination for the spooky season of October.

The list also names haunted destinations such as the Eastern State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania and Yuma Territorial Prison in Arizona.
