Fall River, in Rocky Mountain National Park, pours into a narrow roadside gulch to form Chasm Falls. To get to the trailhead, take the Fall River entrance located on US 34 / Fall River Road in Estes Park, travel about two miles and then turn right onto Old Fall River Road. Continue three miles, past the Endovalley Picnic Area, and head up the unpaved, one-way road to a trailhead on the left side of the road. A steep trail leads down to a platform with views of Chasm Falls. In the winter, plan on a longer hike as the road may be closed a couple miles back at the West Alluvial Parking area.

Pro Tips

  • There are no facilities at this trailhead so if you need a restroom break, stop at the Endovalley Picnic Area. The road up to the falls is one-way and takes you onto Trail Ridge Road. If you don’t want to do the whole 45-minute loop drive, park at the picnic area and hike up the road.
  • In winter and spring the trail can be icy and snow packed, so bring traction devices such as microspikes for your boots and stay off wet, icy rocks along the river.
  • The Fall River Visitor Center is located nearby and is open seasonally, so grab a snack and pick up some souvenirs in the summertime.
