It may be early fall, but winter is already rearing it’s head in the West, with some parts of the country projected to get more than 12 inches of snow during the upcoming weekend, specifically Montana. Most likely, Colorado won’t be getting anything close to that much, but there’s a good chance that many ski resorts will see some level of accumulation.

According to the most recent report from OpenSnow, one of the most trusted weather forecasting sources for ski country, snow will start dropping in parts of the Centennial State on Wednesday night, with most of the snow holding off until the weekend. However, starting on Saturday, most of the resorts in the state should see 2-to-3 inches over 24 hours, with parts of the state seeing 4 or more inches of snow.

The snowstorm that’s dumping this powder is expected to continue into early next week, adding more inches to early weekend predictions. It’s still a bit far out to accurately project how much will fall by the time all is said and done, but if the same conditions continue, some resorts could see more than half a foot, with the most snow falling in the Durango/Silverton area. It’s a far cry from the 17 inches that parts of Montana are expected to get, but we’ll take it.

Bold Prediction: Based on a radar projection found on Snow-Forecast.com, some parts of Colorado might see excess of 20 inches of snow in the next 3 to 6 days. Expect this to be at high-altitude locations around the state, particularly in the southwest region. Here’s the full map – note that it may be updated as conditions adjust.
