Colorado’s Private Ski Resort Will Not Require Members to Build Mansions

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a private ski resort in Colorado – one that only 15 families have access to. The resort is called the Cimarron Mountain Club, and it consists of roughly 1,000 skiable acres along a 2.5-mile ridge, located between Telluride and Crested Butte.

During its initial launch, the club, owned by Jim Aronstein, was set to sell parcels of land ranging from $2.7 million to $3.85 million, with estimates on home construction at  $1 million or more. In addition to this expensive buy-in, owners were also expected to pay annual dues of $50,000 to $90,000.

However, as buyers started to show interest, Denver Post reports that Aronstein realized that not everyone wanted to build a new house just to be able to access the property. After all, many potential buyers already owned multiple homes. Adjusting his plan to cut out the need for home-building as a membership requirement, Cimarron Mountain Club will now include a 14,000 square-foot lodge, complete with six suites and three four-bedroom cabins. According to the Cimarron Mountain Club website, members will be able to access these alternative places to stay for a total of 130 nights per year.

Now, each member will get a 35-acre piece of land, but they’ll have the option to do what they want with it. For some, that might mean a large home, but for others, that could mean building a simple log cabin or leaving the space empty.

As the only resort of its kind in Colorado, membership at the Cimarron Mountain Club includes 115 days of snowcat skiing and access to runs that a maximum of 35 other people will have access to, among other amenities. Including adjacent public land, Cimarron Mountain Club members will have access to 1,950 acres of skiable terrain, 60+ runs, and an average of 350 inches of powder per year.
