It is the best year in decades at Breckenridge Ski Resort, as weekly snows since the season opened have amounted to 233 inches as of this writing (by comparison, they didn’t reach the 200-inch mark until the end of March last year). As a result, the resort plans to stay open six weeks longer than initially anticipated, through Memorial Day — a move they haven’t made since the mid-1990s.

Springtime in Breck is legendary for sun-drenched days and soft snow. Even under regular circumstances the slopes are at their best during this time, so spring 2019 promises to be even more awesome than usual. With the volume and consistency of snowfall they’ve had, you’ll likely find powder stashes even on warm, sunny days. 1. Mardi Gras … mountain style, March 5

The atmosphere and temperatures in Breck probably couldn’t be less similar to the places where Mardi Gras is traditionally celebrated, but regardless, Fat Tuesday revelers take over the town with beads, boas, masks and music to celebrate the carnival season each year. Starting at 4:30 p.m., join the party by gathering along the fenced parade route and get in position to catch incoming strands of beads while cheering on the floats the locals have put together.

Following the parade, head over to the Riverwalk Center to enjoy a free concert of killer R&B from the Colorado-based Hazel Miller Band, and carry on the festive spirit by indulging in some strong, belly-warming beers at the Paulaner Salvator beer festival.

2. Let your colors fly, March 3-7

Breck Pride is open to every ally and member of the LGBTQ community — so come and be a part of the fun! 2019 marks the third year for the festival which has, in its relatively short lifespan, become one of Breckenridge’s biggest spring events. Local businesses throughout the town have joined to support the event, with numerous clubs, resorts and restaurants playing host to a world-class après scene of post-skiing parties and social gatherings, turning it into a celebratory week of fun, dancing, drinking, shopping and — lest we forget — skiing.

From the village festival, to the private dinner and beer pairing, to the Breckenridge Ski Resort Color Run and First Tracks, the festival promises to deliver good food, good drinks and lots of fun. There will also be skiing and boarding lessons, the Breck Pride Salvator Beer Festival, Live Music, DJs and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to play gay-themed trivia and drag bingo, learn how to create skis at Breckenridge’s ski shop manufacturer, and attend the Pride Festival on the Plaza. 3. Celebrate the wearing o’ green, March 17

Although rainbows and clovers are uncommon in Breck in March, you’ll definitely be in luck if you’re looking for some slope-side and downslope shenanigans to get into this St. Paddy’s Day. Here are just a few of the great events happening around town.

There’ll be an all-day party at The Coppertop Deck at Beaver Run Resort, celebrating with Jameson-themed giveaways and a DJ spinning tunes all day. Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the slopes, continue your Irish-flavored celebrations with a special buffet at Spencer’s Restaurant. After the lifts close, head to Base Nine Bar and have some green beer for Après ski. Burke and Riley’s Irish Pub throws one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Breckenridge, which you won’t want to miss. And then, if you’re looking to party down ‘till last call, Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub features a large dance floor and live DJ that will keep it going until 2 a.m. Friday morning, recover with a hangover breakfast from Spencer’s restaurant, which offers unlimited bacon and build-your-own-mimosas … and that’s kind of a pot of gold in itself, right?

4. Catch a case of Spring Fever, March and April

Spring Fever in Breck is a series of events that spans more than a month, heralding in a season that is known for the best snow Colorado has to offer. Events will take place throughout Breck, as the town (and mountain) welcome visitors to one of the best times of the year for skiing and riding.

On March 17 and 18, The Helly Hansen Big Mountain Challenge will feature some of the top big-mountain freeskiers in the country competing, and the Youth Ski League Championships will have the best young skiers testing their skills on Peak 9. Celebrate Easter on April 1 with the sunrise on-mountain Easter service, an Easter Bunny meet & greet for kids 10 and under, an on-mountain Easter egg photo scavenger hunt for skiers 7 to 14 years old, and Easter face painting for kids of all ages. The Breck Spring Beer Festival on April 7 will feature beer from some of the best breweries in Colorado and the nation, along with free live music and vendor munchies. The top chefs from Breckenridge Ski Resort and Breck Hospitality will compete to see whose chili recipe is the best at the Breck Chili Cook-off on April 8, where each chili will be paired with complementary brews. Now in its 27th year, The Imperial Challenge happening April 21 is the most unique pseudo triathlon anywhere. And, scheduled for what is typically the end of the season, the Breck Plunge pond skim event on April 22 will instead be kicking off the resort’s extended 2018-19 season with brave boarders and skiers going from turf to surf — by cruising right into an icy pool at the end of their run.
