5 Hardest Places to Ski in Colorado

If you’re an expert skier looking for advanced terrain, Colorado has plenty of it. Here are 5 resorts where advanced skiers will thrive.

1. Silverton Mountain

Home to more than 1,500 acres of expert terrain that reaches up to an elevation of 13,487 feet, Silverton Mountain is no joke. Several of the runs require that skiers take to the air and everything is ungroomed. When they say “experts only” at this resort, they mean it.

2. Telluride

Telluride has plenty of black and double-black terrain with hikeable terrain to match. If you’re really looking to push yourself to the limits here, hit the trees.

3. Beaver Creek

Known for an area of the resort that hosts the “Birds of Prey World Cup” downhill racing event, the speeds found at Beaver Creek are unmatched. There’s also an area that’s known as the “Stone Creek Chutes,” which is some of the most difficult inbounds terrain you’ll find in Colorado.

4. Arapahoe Basin

Home to chute skiing on the East Wall and awesome tree skiing down Pallavicini and the newly opened Beavers section, Arapahoe Basin might not be one of the state’s largest resorts, but it’s got some amazing terrain. Head here during early spring when there’s plenty of coverage and a great vibe.

5. Wolf Creek Ski Area

A true local’s mountain that’s known for getting the most snow in Colorado, Wolf Creek has some seriously insane terrain that’s a blast for anyone at the expert level. A lot of it is found on a section of the resort called the “Knife Ridge,” where skiers will find a number of double black extreme runs.
