A pickup truck driver suffered serious injuries after losing control on a mountain highway in Colorado, crashing into the side of a canyon and splitting the truck in half.
According to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, the pickup truck traveling at an estimated speed of 100 mph was close to running several vehicles off of the road moments before the fiery crash occurred. The engine caught fire after the driver lost control and struck the side of a cliff splitting the truck’s cab from the frame.
The incident was reported as a single-vehicle crash on Highway 145 near mile marker 86, just one mile west of Placerville.
Passing motorists assisted the deputy in extinguishing the fire and extricating the seriously injured driver. He was then taken to the top of the Dallas Divide by EMS where a Careflight helicopter transported him to a nearby hospital. The driver has not yet been identified.
