The ever-popular snow sports website OnTheSnow recently released their annual Visitor's Choice Awards at the Mountain Travel Symposium and several Colorado spots were recognized for being great slopesport destinations.

While Telluride took the top honors as the 'best overall resort,' southwestern Colorado's Wolf Creek Ski Area was dubbed the 'best small ski area' in North America.

"While Wolf Creek doesn’t have the sprawl of Colorado's largest ski resorts, it boasts a bountiful 1,600 acres of skiable terrain, 133 named runs, and 42 miles of trails, and is one of the snowiest ski resorts in Colorado," wrote OnTheSnow of the Wolf Creek win.

Located near Pagosa Springs and the San Luis Valley on Wolf Creek Pass, Wolf Creek Ski Area is a spot locals love and one that Front Rangers long for. It's got small town charm, old school vibes, and excellent powder days. Plus, it's more affordable than many other Colorado spots, with lift tickets priced at less than $100 per day.

Meanwhile, Winter Park won the 'most family-friendly ski resort' award, Breckenridge won 'best terrain parks,' and Aspen Snowmass won 'best apres-ski.'

“OnTheSnow users leave thousands of reviews each ski season for the resorts they've visited,” said Chad Dyer, Managing Director of Mountain News, publishers of OnTheSnow. “The Visitors’ Choice Awards are the culmination of the ski season, when we get to honor those resorts that OnTheSnow users have rated the top in North America.”

These prices are why we are going to just start snowmobile skiing.

Leave a path. ♥

Wolf Creek is great for skiers and riders willing to work for the best turns. The lifts don't go to the best parts of the mountain.

And that picture must have been from opening weekend because that slope almost never has exposed brush and rock after Christmas.
