Though non-resident travel to the mountains has been temporarily banned, let this video provide you with a virtual escape.
Check out the clip below for an awe-inspiring look at the trek to Ice and Island Lakes in the San Juan Mountains as filmed by YouTuber “Run That World.” This virtual hike via Ice Lakes Trailhead starts at the South Mineral Campground in the San Juan National Forest near Silverton, Colorado.
This 8.1-mile trail takes you through some of the most jaw-dropping alpine scenery in all of Colorado. Switchbacks gaining a steep and rocky 3,093 feet of elevation will get your heart and lungs pumping. As you ascend deeper into the narrowing trail, you’ll find colorful floral displays in open alpine meadows (including the official state flower), peaceful streams glistening in the sun, and views that will leave you in awe.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a fragile destination. If you plan to visit, please follow the core principles of Leave No Trace while you’re there. Stay on the trail, do not pick the wildflowers, and pack out all trash.
