According to the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office, what has been dubbed the Tobin Fire has grown to 10 acres. While this is smaller than the original estimation of 30-50 acres, this fire has doubled in size since sparking yesterday. At 2:15 PM yesterday, the fire, which is burning on Blanca Peak near the Great Sand Dunes National Park, was estimated to be 5 acres in size.

Yesterday, two firefighting airplanes and a helicopter were dispatched to help handle the blaze. Today’s efforts have 30 firefighters on scene and one firefighting helicopter en route. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
