If it's still the same owner, I've met him. Very pro climber and hiker. If he says he's been ripped off by people not paying, I think he's truthful. And $20 to park, for a carload of people fr several hours, isn't unreasonable.

Sorry about the deceased. If people want to try and drive this road, they need to start with local four wheel drive clubs to learn how to do it. Otherwise, do what friends and I have done many times. We backpack up the road in order to reach Como Lake and access to the 14ers.

Elkhorn Avenue is also known for heavy traffic; both cars and people; and parking problems. I haven't been there in years. If one needs to check it out, strongly suggest going in the fall after the elk rut, or on a summer weekday.

Ski areas already are taxed. A small portion of each lift ticket sold goes to the National Forest Foundation to support environmental & trails projects on the national forests.
