While Joey Chestnut might be the best competitive hot dog eater in the world, a different diner took the top spot in the 2020 Pueblo State Fair "slopper" eating contest on September 5.

Geoff Esper of Massachusetts won the competition by downing 37.5 sloppers in just eight minutes. Joey Chestnut still earned a spot on the podium, eating 32 sloppers to claim second place.

Among the seven competitors was last year's champion, Darron Breeden, who earned 5th place by eating 21.5 sloppers. This was quite short of the 28 sloppers that he consumed for a victory in the inaugural 2019 competition.

The lowest number of sloppers eaten by a competitor was six.

Previously, Chestnut estimated that he would eat up to 35 sloppers in the competition. Keep in mind that Chestnut set a world record by downing 75 hot dogs in just 10 minutes.

The sloppers were provided by Giodone's in Pueblo County, weighing in at approximately half a pound each. They consist of a beef patty on a bottom bun that's smothered in green chile and topped with a slice of cheese.
