USA Today Lists 2 Colorado Ski Resorts as Most Extreme in North America
While Colorado is home to a ton of amazing resorts, most enthusiasts tend to think of places like British Columbia and Alaska when they’re trying to hunt down extreme ski terrain. That being said, a few places in Colorado can definitely fulfill the needs of an adrenaline junkie. USA Today published a piece featuring the top 10 most extreme resorts to ski in North America and two Colorado destinations made the list. Can you guess what they are?
The first resort to make the list was Crested Butte. Home to the Extreme Freeskiing Championships, this mountain tends to attract some of the most hardcore skiers around. It’s no surprise several notable athletes, including Wendy Fisher, call this town home. Here, you’ll find some of the most dangerous inbounds terrain in the country, including steeps filled with trees and cliffs. They’ve also got high-altitude bowls and a run called “Body Bag”, a glade run like you’ve never seen before.
The second mountain on their list was Telluride. This should be too surprising as this resort boasts several of the steepest runs and gullies in the state. The terrain here is so crazy, that they even feature a special “extreme double black” designation regularly on their trail map. If you’re really looking to push the limits here, hike up to the top of Palmyra Peak and drop in. It’s not for the faint of heart.
