Calypso Cascades

Calypso Cascades – OutThere Colorado.

Things To Do

The southeast quarter of Rocky Mountain National Park near Allenspark is home to Wild Basin and many stunning waterfalls. From the Wild Basin Trailhead, it’s about three and a half miles roundtrip to Calypso Cascades on Cony Creek. The falls here are named for springtime Calypso orchids that grow along the creek. You’ll meet the creek and unnamed fall “Lover’s Leaps” at about one and a half miles from the trailhead, then stay on the trail for another quarter of a mile where you’ll turn right at the trail junction to reach the cascades. Three footbridges take you over the top of the falls with views above and below in this beautiful subalpine forest.

Pro Tips

  • As an added bonus, you can enjoy a short detour at about a quarter of a mile where a spur trail leads to Lower and Upper Copeland Falls, then rejoin the main trail to Calypso Cascades.
  • In the winter and springtime, the trail can be quite icy so pack a pair of microspikes or other traction for your boots and a trekking pole for balance on the slippery trail.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park is open year-round and is a fee area, so bring some cash or a credit card.
  • Overnight parking is not permitted at the trailhead unless you have a camping permit. Make reservations well ahead of time as this is a very popular place.
