Things To Do

Arapaho Bay Campground is an ideal camping destination for fishing, boating, and mountain enthusiasts. The 8,300-foot-high campground lies on the eastern end of Lake Granby in north-central Colorado. Take CO 34 north from Granby for five miles, then head east on County Road 6 for nine miles to the campground. The campground is divided into three loops featuring 84-single and -double sites; some are handicap-accessible. RVs and trailers up to 40 feet are permitted but there are no hookups or water access. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided. The campground is first-come first-served, although reservations are accepted during the busy season. The campground is open from May 26 through September 25; sites 1-7 are open year round; no amenities are available in the off season.

Pro Tips:

  • Boating is popular at Arapaho Bay, and the campground boasts its own boat launch. Fishermen angle for kokanee salmon and several species of trout. Be advised that conditions on the lake are often rough and choppy with high winds; personal floatation devices are recommended for all boaters.
  • The area is home to spectacular mountain scenery and dense lodgepole pine forests. Hiking opportunities in Arapaho National Recreation Area include Monarch Lake Trail, Roaring Fork Trail, and East Shore Trail. More activities in the greater area are hiking, peakbagging, backpacking, scenic drives, and wildlife watching, including the neighboring Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.
  • The western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is beyond Grand Lake and north of Lake Granby. Arapaho Bay makes a great basecamp to explore this premier outdoor destination in the Colorado Rockies.
  • Recommended season(s): May through September.
