According to Colorado State Patrol, a man died earlier this week when a Toyota 4Runner he was driving slid off of Transfer Trail, a 4WD road north of Glenwood Springs, rolling several times as the car made its way down the embankment.
The man involved in the accident, Ethan Turner, 25, was determined to be dead at the scene.
Ethan is remembered in a piece by the Post Independent as “a local rafting guide, outdoor adventurer, and performance artist.”
That same post also has a longer description of the accident, including the detail that excessive speed and non-use of a seat beat may have contribute to the wreck and subsequent death.
Use of four-wheel-drive roads is a popular means of outdoor recreation in Colorado, but the activity is not without risk. Earlier this summer, another death occurred near Buena Vista, in which a driver fell 600 feet off of a cliffside during a Jeeping trip. During that accident, a dog was thrown from the vehicle. The pup was recovered alive and well several weeks later after surviving in the Colorado high country.
