According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, Berthoud Pass has been closed down both east and westbound following a crash that involved a semi-truck rolling over. The closure is in place between Mary Jane Ski Area and MM 249. This spot is located just west of Empire. The wreck occurred on Wednesday morning.

Colorado Department of Transportation is suggesting that drivers use an alternate route linking Westbound I-70 to State Highway 9.

There has yet to be an announcement about when the pass will reopen.

According to a report by The Denver Channel, the driver of the semi sustained minor injuries and has been transported to a hospital.

Berthoud Pass is a popular mountain pass that provides fast access to Winter Park and Grand County from the I-70 corridor. It reaches a maximum altitude of 11,307 feet with very steep grades on both sides. A large number of switchbacks are also present on the pass, making it difficult for some vehicles to navigate, especially during bad weather.
