A few days ago, we posted a story about how the future of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is uncertain. At that time, a delay of opening the railway for the season was confirmed, with speculation that the Cog might not open again. In a recent statement by the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, it has been officially stated that this popular tourist attraction will remain closed for the entirety of the 2018 season, citing infrastructure concerns of the train as a key reason.
The post goes on to explain the difficulties of performing maintenance on the railway, mentioning that replacement parts must be found outside of the country and that the high altitude of the track poses it’s own problems. It’s yet to be determined if the Cog will ever open again, though it has been said that it will not open for the “foreseeable future.”
Here’s a video we shot with the Cog Railway a year and a half ago that will put you on the tracks in a virtual reality experience.
