A number of disturbing cases involving dogs being killed or injured have made headlines in the Fremont County area in recent days.
In the most recent instance, Fremont County Sheriff's Office has taken to Facebook to ask the public about a vehicle – a gold Chevy Avalanche – that may have been involved in a recent fatal dog shooting.
According to a report by KKTV, two dogs were shot after escaping their Cañon City yard last Friday, one of which returned home bloody and another that was found dead. The dead dog's collar had been removed.
A report from the Pueblo Chieftain states that the surviving dog is a two-year-old Australian shepherd that's being treated for serious wounds to the face. The deceased dog was a one-year-old German shepherd.
Fremont County Sheriff's Office is also requesting information about another animal cruelty case where multiple dogs were poisoned in the Whitehorn Area of County Road 2 near the edge of Chaffee and Fremont Counties.
The owner of the poisoned dogs is willing to pay $500 for information about the poisoner in addition to the $1,000 CrimeStoppers reward.
If anyone of the public has information regarding either case they can call CrimeStoppers at 719-275-STOP.
