It's officially that time of year again when several of Colorado's mountain passes and high country roads close ahead of the winter season.

San Miguel County announced the seasonal closure of all high country passes earlier this week, including Ophir Pass (11,789'), Imogene Pass (13,114'), and Black Bear Pass (12,844').

Last Dollar Road (10,676'), which travels between Telluride and Ridgway is also closed for the winter season.

Meanwhile near Aspen, Highway 82 over Independence Pass (12,095') is set to officially close at 7 PM on Friday, November 13th.

Cottonwood Pass (12,126') has also closed. This high mountain pass is located along the Continental Divide, connecting Buena Vista to the Gunnison area.

Extreme winter conditions are starting to hit the high country, resulting in these seasonal closures.

Despite these closures, it should also be noted that Colorado hasn't seen much early season snow. The lack of snow has already forced multiple ski resorts to push back their opening dates for the 2020-21 season.

Editor's Note: Be prepared for winter travel in Colorado. Weather conditions often change rapidly across higher elevations. Here's what you need to know about traction laws activated around the state right now.
