UPDATE: The fire has been identified as a truck fire. One lane has now reopened on the eastbound side of the highway. All westbound lanes remain open. Expect delays. See image in update tweet below.

Eastbound lanes of I-70 between Exit 226 (Silver Plume) and Exit 228 (Georgetown) have been closed due to fire activity according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. There is no estimated time of re-opening at this time.

Editor's Note: This is a breaking story. Conditions are subject to rapid change. Please check the official CDOT website or Twitter page for the most up-to-date information.

It is unclear what has caused the fire activity that is shutting eastbound lanes down. Westbound lanes were also previously shut down, though have since reopened.

It is unclear what type of fire activity is occurring based on traffic cameras in the area. Traffic cameras do show major back-ups on eastbound lanes. Vehicles headed east appear to be stopped for several miles past the closure.

This is a developing story.
