Heritage meets history combined with family fun at Buena Vista’s Gold Rush Days. Held at McPhelemy Park on August 11 and 12, this 38-year tradition brings live music, historical reenactments (join in dressing up), and the Triple Crown Burro Race to one of Colorado’s finest summer towns. Nestled between the Arkansas River and the towering Collegiate Peaks, Gold Rush Days are the perfect reason to plan a weekend getaway in Buena Vista.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy at this action-packed event, also featuring the town’s largest arts and crafts fair, events for kids like gem panning, toilet seat races, water events, bungee jumps, and face painting, as well as a long list of food options sure to satisfy from local barbecue to tacos to shaved ice. There’s also a beer garden featuring Elevation Beer that can’t be skipped for those old enough to partake.
Attending the event is free, with live music lasting from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday and 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Sunday featuring headliner Chris Daniels and the Kings.
