According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, a male body was found in a tent at Buckingham Campground. It is believed that the body was there for an extended period of time based on the condition in which it was found.

Visitors to the area believed they may have found a deceased person and notified authorities on the afternoon of July 29 at 4:22 PM. The responding Boulder County Parks and Open Space ranger was able to confirm their suspicion.

The case is still under investigation, but foul play is not suspected. Identification and cause of death will be determined by the coroner.

Buckingham Campground is located near 4th of July Road, west of  Nederland, Colorado. It's quite high, nestled at an elevation of 10,100 feet. This often means difficult access and late season snow. While it's close to the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, it's considered a City of Boulder Mountain Park.

If you're headed out to camp in Colorado, it's important to let someone know where you're going and when they should expect you to be back. Prepare for changing elements and extreme weather. Consider bringing a GPS device that can send out an emergency signal if things go wrong. All of the risk can never be eliminated, but it is important to keep safety at front of mind.

The agencies involved in this case include the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder county Parks and Open Space, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Nederland Fire Protection District, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and the Boulder County Coroner's Office.
