Customers asked to no longer “open carry” at King Soopers, City Market

Kroger has asked customers at any of its stores (they operate under several brands) to not open carry firearms while shopping, following Walmart’s heavily publicized policy change to stop customers from open carrying and to halt some ammunition sales.

This impacts two Colorado grocery store brands, including King Soopers and City Market. This request applies to all stores, regardless of whether or not they’re located in an open carry state – Colorado is an open carry state. Both of these grocery store brands are widespread around the state, with some located in more remote and mountainous areas.

The request does make an exception for “authorized law enforcement officers.” These changes follow two deadly shootings this year at Walmart.
