Colorado's ski country is set to get another upgrade.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Summit County just got the green light from the White River National Forest to replace one of their key chairlifts, construct a new warming hut, and expand up their on-mountain food services.

The existing Lenawee Lift, originally installed in 2001, will be replaced with detachable high-speed lift increasing uphill capacity from about 1,800 to 2,400 riders per hour.

The current fixed grip three-person chair is the only way for guests to repeat ski most of the frontside upper mountain and provides the primary access to Montezuma Bowl and East Wall terrain.

The Steilhang Hut will also be built, featuring on-mountain food service, guest seating, composting toilets, and an outdoor deck. The 1,000-square foot hut will be constructed this summer, with plans to operate year-round in support of winter skiing operations and summer Via Ferrata activities near the East Wall. It will be located on front side of A-Basin near the Lenawee Parks ski trail.

A new 2,100-square foot food service building will also be constructed next to the Black Mountain Lodge, offering on-mountain food service, guest seating, and more storage space.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is located at 10,520 feet along the Continental Divide, just 90 miles west of Denver. It boasts the longest ski season in the state of Colorado with season dates often running from October to June. The resort is one of the highest in the country, reaching a peak elevation of 13,050 feet above sea level.
