A Fort Collins police officer stepped in to help with the delivery of a baby in an odd place last week while on duty.

Fort Collins Police Services says Officer Lang arrived just in time to help deliver a healthy baby girl after responding to a pending call where he found a pregnant woman in active labor inside of her vehicle.

Shortly after the surprise delivery, paramedics and several of the woman's family members arrived at the scene. Officers also let the "proud big brother" pick out a stuffed animal for himself, as well as one for his new baby sister.

A second Fort Collins Police Officer named Stratton accompanied the family to the hospital where he helped them make childcare arrangements so that the parents could enjoy time with their new baby daughter.

Police officers can respond to a wide range of needs while on duty. Though the delivery of a baby isn't typical, Officer Lang was thankfully prepared to assist in the situation.
