Ken May, 71 of Denver, is missing in Summit County after leaving the Willowbrook Trailhead on October 7 with the intention of hiking to the summit of Mount Silverthorne – a 13,357-foot peak.
May had a GPS tracker with him at the time he went missing, though it is no longer sending updates. His last known point was on the ridge between Mount Silverthorne and "the Thorne," during which he was reportedly descending toward Salmon and Willow lakes.
The Summit County Rescue Group searched for May through the night and is continuing their search on Thursday. They are seeking any information that could lead to his whereabouts. If you have information that might help or if you were hiking in the area within the last day, it is requested that you contact 970-333-9856.
According to SummitPost.com, any route to the remote high-elevation Mount Silverthorne summit is a "long committing route deep in the heart of the rugged Eagles Nest Wilderness." The specific route May was using is unclear, though any route would have posed a number of risks.
