The Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers have euthanized a mountain lion that was found on a Steamboat Springs trail on Tuesday after determining something was wrong with it. According to reports, a mountain biker found the lion laying down on Morning Gloria Trail (located on Emerald Mountain). As the biker approached, the animal was alive, but not responsive. The decision was made to euthanize the animal after a wound was discovered on it’s hip – possibly an injury from a gunshot or goring.

Generally, an animal simply being on a trail doesn’t result in euthanization. We have to guess that the wound was serious enough to prevent recovery. The official cause of the wound and ailment will be released at a latter date.
