Vail Resorts has announced some of their projected opening dates for the 2019-2020 season, with one Colorado resort possibly starting up the lifts in October.
Thanks to major improvements to their automated snowmaking system, Keystone will likely be open to skiers and snowboarders sometime in October 2019. Keystone should also be able to open top-to-bottom skiing earlier in the year, estimated to double the terrain available for early season visitors with top-to-bottom runs. In 2018, Keystone opened on November 9.
If Keystone is able to hit this early opening, they’ll likely accompany Arapahoe Basin and Loveland, which are two Colorado resorts that also seem to aim for a pre-November opening each year. The push to open Keystone early is likely in part an attempt to fill a gap left by Arapahoe Basin’s departure from the Epic Pass as an early-season option.
As for other Vail Resorts in Colorado that have already announced potential opening dates, Breckenridge has plans to open on November 8, Vail should open on November 15, Beaver Creek should open on November 27, and Crested Butte should open on November 27.
