Only a few days after the snow-making guns fired up at Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort, real snow is falling from the sky. Confirmed in a post on the official Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort Instagram page (in their “story,” available for 24 hours), snow can be seen falling at the base of the mountain in front of remaining fall colors. The story was posted around 10AM Mountain Time.
Snow has fallen in several spots around Colorado’s high country already this year, though these spots have been well above treeline for the most part. This is the first report we’ve seen of snow at the base of any ski resort. Before you get too excited, it’s not enough snow to ski on. You probably won’t even see accumulation if you drive by later in the day. That being said, any sign of early season snow is good news for those of us that love Colorado skiing.
The current weather report for Arapahoe Basin predicts a 30% chance of precipitation for the day, with no additional precipitation expected until Sunday.
