Avalanches continue to cause problems around the state of Colorado, including on the highways and in the backcountry. Do not enter the backcountry in these high risk conditions. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center website is a great resource for determining what the current risk is. If you’re hoping to accurately track where powder will be landing, the Colorado Daily Snow Report from OpenSnow is a good place to start.

If you have to be on the roads during these extreme winter conditions, pack these important items in your trunk. If you happen to get caught in an avalanche on the roads, it’s important that you know what to do.
