The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced that eastbound I-70 in De Beque Canyon will remain closed until further notice, likely until later this week. The reason for the closure is continued clean-up and rockslide mitigation.

This follows a rockslide in which rocks as large as 4 feet tall fell into the road colliding with traffic and injuring two people. During the rockslide, debris covered both lanes temporarily shutting down all traffic at mile marker 57.

A detour has been put in place as shown below. Eastbound traffic is closed at Exit 49, redirecting to CO 65 into De Beque. The detour adds roughly 8 miles and 15-20 minutes to the trip through town, according to Google Maps. Colorado Department of Transportation estimates that the detour is now taking longer at 45 minutes.
