According to a tweet put out by the Colorado Department of Transportation at roughly 12:45 PM MT, I-70 is closed between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Georgetown. There’s no estimated time of reopening. Check here for the most up-to-date information about whether or not the tunnel is currently open. Read additional details below.

This is part of a planned avalanche mitigation effort that was looking to address three different spots on I-7o. Extended safety closures were expected. Below you’ll find a tweet about progress earlier today.

This could cause major delays on both I-70 and detour routes as skiers and snowboarders head home after a powdery weekend.
