Over the weekend, the 416 fire found 10 miles north of Durango continued to grow at a rapid rate. It has currently burnt 2,250 acres as of Sunday, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of homes (as many as 825) for a third consecutive day. The current containment is around 10%.

As a result of the fire, nearby Highway 550 was closed from mile marker 38 to 48. This section of the road is slated to reopen on Monday with law enforcement escorting vehicles through dangerous areas. The same announcement mentioned that the road could close completely again at any time.

This fire burns as another larger fire burns in New Mexico, covering parts of Colorado with a blanket of smoke. The New Mexico fire is located east of Ute Park along Highway 64, already having burnt a total of 36,000 acres.
