According to Colorado Parks & Wildlife, a large bull elk was shot and killed earlier this week in the Poudre Canyon area. After the animal was killed, its head was removed and the rest of its body was left on the side of Colorado Highway 14.

While elk are in season, hunting overnight is illegal. It’s also illegal to abandon a big game kill.

This continues a scary trend of poaching in Colorado with one deer illegally killed in a Colorado Springs neighborhood earlier this week and two elk illegally killed in Rocky Mountain National Park earlier this season.

If anyone in the public has information about this shooting, they’re encouraged to contact wildlife officials at 970-472-4300.
