The Donkey Derby Days are back!

The 88th annual Donkey Derby Days will take place in the heart of Cripple Creek, Colorado on June 22nd at 9:00 am to June 23rd at 6:00 pm, 2019.

This beloved Cripple Creek festival truly has it all – from donkey-based activities including street races, donkey rides, and a petting zoo to live entertainment and heritage competitions. Food vendors of all kinds including Philly cheesesteak subs, handmade pretzels, turkey legs, street tacos, and stuffed crepes will line the streets of downtown Cripple Creek beginning Saturday morning. Visitors can also drop by the beer tent for a wide selection of seasonal, local, and craft beer.

Called the “Best New Rodeo in Colorado,” the event honors all the donkeys who once worked in the tunnel mines in the Cripple Creek & Victor mining district among the early gold rush days. Today, the donkeys are cared for by the Two-Mile High Club – a group that’s vowed to give these noble creatures a life free of mining and full of roaming freely through the city from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The festival is free and open to the public. All proceeds from the festival will be used to provide additional food and shelter for the donkeys in the winter season. For more information or to register as a participating vendor, click here.
