Sapphire Point Overlook Trail

Things to do

HikingRunning

This trail is very short. It’s really more of a stroll than a hike, but the views of Dillon Reservoir and the peaks of Summit County may have you feeling more out there than you are. The .6-mile loop is on a bluff overlooking the reservoir, along Swan Mountain Road about two miles from the junction with Colorado Highway 9. From the large and obvious trailhead, simply stroll along the trail to the overlook. The mighty peaks of the Tenmile and Gore range dominate the horizon, with Dillon Reservoir spread out before you. Drink in the view, have a snack at one of the picnic tables along the trail and be on your way. Or stay a while. You’ll want to.

Pro Tips

  • The overlook is a very scenic place to hold a wedding ceremony. Couples can rent it out for 2 hours for $120 through www.recreation.gov.
  • The overlook is still open during wedding ceremonies. Please be quiet and respectful if one is happening during your hike.
  • Take a stroll to the overlook at sunset, especially when the peaks are bathed in snow, for a jaw-dropping experience you won’t soon forget.

Recommended season(s): Year-round.
