The name says it all. This campground is located literally right next to Colorado Highway 160 and the road noise is never far off. But it makes a great spot for travelers looking for a convenient place to pitch a tent or park the RV while on a road trip. The campground is four miles west of South Fork and has 13 sites. It’s not possible to make reservations, nor is there drinking water, but there is two toilets. Camping is $13 per night. Anglers will find great fishing nearby in the south fork of the Rio Grande and hikers will find great trails farther to the west on Wolf Creek Pass.
- The upper loop is suitable for RVs. The sites have limited shade and little to shield them from road noise, though there are pleasant views of the surrounding mountains.
- Tent campers will find the lower loop more suitable, with shade from the abundant aspens and a hill to block the sound of the highway.
- The Tewksberry Trail (Trail No. 842) is nearby and offers a pleasant stroll through grassy meadows.
Recommended season(s): Memorial Day – Labor Day.
