Located in one of the prettiest mountain towns in the state, Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs in Ouray offers outdoor hot spring soaking tubs to its overnight guests. The sunken tubs rise along redwood decks that culminate in a sundeck and a grassy overlook where you can sit on a bench or relax on a swing and take in views of the surrounding Mount Sneffels Range. Three lodges provide thirty-nine rooms of many configurations and they all include free Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, microwave, satellite TV, coffee maker and a hair drier. There’s even an onsite laundry so you can wash your clothes after a soak, a hike, or a climb. Clothing is required, and pets and smoking are not allowed.
- This commercial hot spring is located within walking distance to downtown Ouray so you can shop, eat, and drink to your heart’s delight and then make your way back to the lodge without worrying about driving or parking. If you imbibe alcoholic beverages at any of the local establishments, do it after your hot soak and not before, to avoid sickness or accidents.
- If you’re an ice climber this is a great location for an overnight stay, as Gazebo Wall is just a few minutes’ walk from the lodge. Keep in mind that the Ouray Ice Festival attracts thousands of climbers from around the world in January, so book early, make dinner reservations if possible, and expect crowds at the local bars and eateries.
Recommended season(s): Year-round.
