Huzzah! Starting June 10th and lasting for eight WEEKENDS, a glorious tradition returns to Colorado, complete with turkey legs, royalty, ladies in waiting, and dashing knights. That’s right, it’s the Colorado Renaissance Festival in Larkspur and you certainly do not want to miss out. Before you head to the castle, there are a few things you should probably know.

Naturally, there are theme weekends to encourage and pay tribute to various aspects of the time. If you’re looking for men in kilts, you’ll probably want to attend the Celtic Festival at the end of June. Perhaps pirates are your vice? Try making time for the Pirate Invasion weekend at the end of July. Hint: Looking for love? Romance will be in the air of the fair July 21st and 22nd including a vow renewal ceremony and a wooing competition.

3. There’s live entertainment

Minstrels, jugglers, wenches, angels, and fairies? Where else can you find such an array of talent in one place? You won’t want to miss the illusions and comedy of Arsene of Paris or the music of The CRAIC Show complete with bagpipes. Catch a glimpse of The Vodca Family performing original musical numbers complete with comedy and improv. Hint: You’re in for a real treat if you experience Cast in Bronze.

4. Don’t miss the medieval-themed food

Wondering what to eat? You’ll probably have a tough time figuring out where to begin with the options available. Grab a turkey drumstick at Canterbury Kitchens then head over to Knight’s Kitchen for Dragon Wings. Don’t miss out on Friar Tuck’s Bakery for the perfect dessert to top it all off.

5. You can shop til’ you drop

Shopping should be on your to-do list if you’re heading to the festival. More than 200 shops feature everything from jewelry to costumes, pottery, and glassblowing. Hint: Don’t forget to check out the Blacksmith, Raku Pottery, Glassblowing, leather-making, and woodworking demonstrations.

6. You can use your tickets whenever you want

Tickets available at the gate, online, or at King Soopers. These admissions are one time use only but they aren’t date specific so even though the festival carries on rain or shine, you can wait for a sunny day if it pleases you. Discounted rates are available for kids ages 5-12 and children under five years of age are free.

Remember, it’s a good idea to arrive early, wear your walking shoes, and bring cash instead of cards. Suspend reality for just a short time as you explore and interact with a time of romance, magic, and fantasy.
