Car Insurance Comparison recently ranked the worst drivers in America by state – and things didn’t fare too well for Colorado.

I’ll start with Colorado’s “best” ranking that was included – drunk driving – at which Colorado still ranked a disheartening 25th – middle of the road. The worst ranking Colorado held was for “failure to obey,” which the Centennial State ranked 3rd. Colorado also ranked 11th when it came to speeding, which attributed to 210 of the state’s 632 traffic fatalities in 2018, according to the NHTSA.

Overall, Colorado was ranked 6th among the states with the worst drivers in the country. This is the first time Colorado drivers have been included in this Car Insurance Comparison “top 10 worst” list, ranking 15th in 2018 and 2017, 11th in 2016, and 18th in 2015.

The state with the worst ranking drivers was New Mexico, with 26.8% of traffic fatalities in the first nine months of 2019 involving alcohol.

There are a number of theories why Colorado drivers are so bad, though it’s easy to see how high speed limits on steep and winding roads could be a contributing factor.

Do you think Colorado drivers are deserving of this ranking?
