While Colorado is best known for being home to Denver when it comes to major urban centers, another Centennial State spot was recently named as the “Next Dream Outdoors Hub” for 2020 by Outside Magazine.
Making a short list of four spots around the country was Colorado Springs, billed as the “on-the-rise alternative to Denver.”
The article states that housing shortages and rising costs in the Mile High City have people looking elsewhere along the Front Range, with many heading south to Olympic City U.S.A.. Home to iconic outdoor recreation spots like Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and the Manitou Incline, Colorado Springs offers plenty of nearby options for getting outside without most of the typical big city pains, like traffic. The article also lists a budding dining scene as a reason that Colorado Springs is up-and-coming, mentioning spots like Ivywild School and Brooklyn’s on Boulder.
Rounding out Outside Magazine’s list of four were Atlanta, Georgia (thanks to major investment in multi-use paths and proximity to outdoor attractions), Duluth, Minnesota (thanks to recent restoration of waterways), and Olympia, Washington (thanks to the Pacific Northwest landscape minus the crowds).
What do you think? Does Colorado Springs belong on this list or should another Colorado spot be there instead?
